How to choose a PlayBase in Monaghan
The BERG PlayBase is a steel climbing frame that you fit out yourself: monkey-bar rungs along the top, and carabiner points for swings, climbing pieces and fitness kit. That freedom means a few decisions. Take them in this order and each one narrows the next: the space, the children, the frame, the ends, the accessories, and whether to buy a set.
Frames start at €999. If you would sooner have us do the working out, the free garden consultation covers the same ground from your photos.
1. Measure the space you really have
All four frames are 1m deep and 2.45m high. Only the width changes, from 1.2m for the Wall to 4.9m for the Extra Large. On top of the frame's own size, BERG's manual sets out the free space needed around it. We check that part with you, so for now note the width and depth of the spot you have in mind.
A free-standing frame needs level ground. County Monaghan is drumlin country and sloping gardens are common, so measure the level part of the garden, not the whole lawn. A lawn that looks big from the back door can have a much smaller flat area once the slope is taken out.
No level ground, or no lawn at all? The Wall frame fixes to a load-bearing brick or block wall, such as the house, a garage or a solid shed. It cannot go on a fence, a timber panel or a hollow partition.
2. Count the children and note their ages
The practical limit on each frame is how many swing-type accessories it holds at once: one or two on the Wall, two on the Medium, three on the Large and four on the Extra Large. If three children will want to swing at the same moment, a frame that holds two will cause a queue.
Then the ages. The frames are for children of 3 and up. For a younger one there is a baby seat, usable from 9 months with an adult pushing. At the other end, the fitness accessories are for ages 14 and over, which is how the same frame stays in use when the swings have been outgrown. Every frame carries a maximum total load of 400kg.
3. Pick the frame
With the space and the number of children known, the frame usually picks itself. Take the widest one that fits your level ground and holds enough swings.
| Frame | Width | Carabiner points | Swing-type accessories at once | Suits | Price |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Wall | 1.2m | 3 | one or two | No level lawn to spare, but a sound brick or block wall. | €999 |
| Medium | 2.85m | 4 | two | Two children swinging together. | from €1,349 |
| Large | 3.8m | 6 | three | Three at once, or anyone who wants the hammock. | from €1,599 |
| Extra Large | 4.9m | 8 | four | Four at once, where the level ground allows. | €1,999 |
One thing can override the sums: the hammock fits the Large and no other frame. If a hammock is on the wish list, the decision is made. Each frame comes in Black or Green, and each price links to the frame on TrampolinesIreland.com, where orders are placed.
4. Choose the ends: TL, TT or LL
Each end of a free-standing frame is finished with a tumble bar (T) or a ladder (L). The Medium and Large are sold in three versions. TL has one of each and is the usual choice. TT has a tumble bar at both ends. LL has a ladder at both ends, for monkey-bar style climbing along the rungs. The Wall and the Extra Large are each sold in a single version.
PlayBase Medium
- TL: tumble bar + ladder€1,499
- TT: two tumble bars€1,349
- LL: two ladders€1,649
PlayBase Large
- TL: tumble bar + ladder€1,749
- TT: two tumble bars€1,599
- LL: two ladders€1,899
5. Decide what hangs from it
The carabiner points are what make a PlayBase adaptable: 3 on the Wall, 4 on the Medium, 6 on the Large and 8 on the Extra Large. Accessories clip on and come off again, so the frame you buy for a four-year-old does not have to look the same when that child is ten.
We list 20 accessory options, from €29. Most go on any frame. The exceptions are few: the hammock is for the Large only; the platform and slide is not for the Wall; and the climbing net and soccer goal come in M, L and XL, one size for each free-standing frame.

6. A ready-made set, or build your own
A set is a frame and a group of accessories sold as one product. There are 6 of them, priced from €1,038 to €2,765 depending on the frame, and each is made for certain frames only. If one of them matches what you worked out in step 5, it is the simple way to order. If none does, order the frame and add accessories one by one.
| Set | Contents | Made for | From |
|---|---|---|---|
| Swing set | Swing seats or a nest swing, depending on the frame. | Wall, Medium | €1,038 |
| Family set | A mix of swing and climbing accessories; contents vary by frame, so ask us for the exact list. | Wall, Extra Large | €1,128 |
| Active set | Two swing seats, gym rings and a trapeze. | Medium, Extra Large | €1,567 |
| Sports set | Boxing bag, pull-up bar, dip bar, resistance bands and fitness rope. | Wall, Medium, Large, Extra Large | €1,227 |
| Peak set | Gym rings and a climbing wall. | Wall, Large | €1,427 |
| Ultimate set | Swing seat, basketball hoop, gym rings and climbing wall. | Medium, Large, Extra Large | €2,165 |
The price of each set on each frame is in the table on the PlayBase page, and each frame's page shows its sets with photos. Note that the Sports set is fitness equipment for ages 14 and over.
What we do, and what we do not
We supply and deliver. We do not install, assemble or level ground. The free-standing frames are held by base sections anchored in the ground, with no concrete, and BERG's manual covers assembly. If you want it done for you, we can put you in touch with an independent installer, who quotes you directly.
Delivery in Monaghan and Cavan
Every frame and set is delivered free by Clontibret Transport of Cashel, Castleblayney. The boxes come on a pallet to the kerbside; you move them into the garden and keep the pallet. Frames in stock are delivered within 48 hours, otherwise typically 7 to 10 days, and we confirm the date when you order. More on the delivery page.
Frequently Asked Questions
Which PlayBase is right for a small garden?+
Start with the width. The Medium is the narrowest free-standing frame at 2.85m, and every frame is 1m deep. If there is no level lawn for that, the Wall is 1.2m wide and fixes to a load-bearing brick or block wall instead.
My Monaghan garden is on a slope. Does that rule out a PlayBase?+
Not necessarily. A free-standing frame needs level ground, so what matters is the size of the level part of the garden, not the whole lawn. Measure that and send us photos. Where there is no level ground at all, the Wall frame hangs on a wall instead. We do not level ground or install frames.
Should I pick TL, TT or LL?+
It depends on how the children will use the ends. TL gives one tumble bar and one ladder and is the usual choice. TT has a tumble bar at both ends. LL has a ladder at both ends, for monkey-bar style climbing. The choice applies to the Medium and Large.
Is a set better than buying the frame and accessories separately?+
A set is simpler: one product, with the accessories already chosen. Building your own makes sense when no set has the mix you want, or when you plan to start with a swing or two and add more later. Accessories clip to the carabiner points, so you can add or swap them at any time.
Will a PlayBase still be used when the children are older?+
The frames are for ages 3 and up, and the accessories change with the child. A baby seat can be used from 9 months with an adult pushing, and the fitness accessories, such as the pull-up bar and boxing bag, are for ages 14 and over.
Who assembles the PlayBase?+
You do, or someone you hire. We supply and deliver but do not install or assemble. BERG's manual covers assembly, and we can put you in touch with an independent installer who quotes you directly.
Want a second opinion on the frame?
Send us photos of the garden and the size of the level ground. We will check the space, suggest a frame and ends, and say which set, if any, matches. It is free.
